Sorority Connections of Hollywood Stars

As the new school year approaches, many colleges are gearing up for sorority rush season. Interestingly, several well-known celebrities were once part of sororities during their college years. For instance, Carrie Underwood was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma.

There are quite a few famous faces who pledged sororities while they were in school.

Molly Sims

Before making her mark as a model, Molly Sims attended Vanderbilt University as a pre-law student, joining the Tri Delta Sorority. In a podcast earlier this year, she reflected on her experience, saying, “This was probably the most difficult jump I made to Tridelt.” She described the challenge of balancing her studies with the pressures of sorority life. “I don’t think I liked being in a sorority at school. I liked it,” she noted, sharing that the vibe could feel strange at times. Yet, she cherished the friendships she formed.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood was part of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, but she departed from her classes to audition for “American Idol” while attending Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. Underwood highlighted her sorority experience as fulfilling, mentioning the focus on charity work. “Everyone can go to recruit; you have to be worthy of them, they have to be worthy of you,” she said, adding that the connections formed in sororities extend beyond college life into various social events.

Megan Moroney

Megan Moroney credits her sorority for her first public performance opportunity. While attending the University of Georgia and being part of Kappa Delta, she began writing her own music. Reflecting on a pageant she participated in, she humorously recalled how her sorority encouraged her to join, offering a Chick-fil-A gift card as incentive. “I sang ‘Strawberry Wine’ with my dad…and I won this pageant,” she shared, marking the beginning of her journey as a country artist.

Ashley Judd

Ashley Judd was involved with Kappa Kappa Gamma during her time at the University of Kentucky. She spoke about how important her Greek life experience was, noting that being a member allowed her to explore various interests and engage with community issues. “Being Greek meant a lot. I joined many different organizations. I had so much fun,” she recounted, emphasizing how those experiences shaped her understanding of social issues.

Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta while studying at the University of Missouri. There, she focused on music education and earned a degree, eventually leading her to a successful career in music.
