Conor McCaffery Reflects on Grandmother’s Passing
Conor McCaffery, boyfriend of Caitlyn Clark, expressed his grief over the loss of his grandmother, Marit Smaby Nowlin. He shared a touching childhood photo of himself with her, capturing a moment that, I suppose, holds a lot of memories.
“I’ve been trying to figure out what to say, but I can’t,” he wrote in his post. “It’s impossible to put into words how much you mean to all of our family. I refuse to say goodbye.” It’s clear that he’s feeling the weight of this loss deeply.
Clark showed her support, responding with heart and prayer emojis in the comments section. It’s nice to see that kind of connection, right? A small gesture that says a lot.
Nowlin, aged 80, had tragically died Wednesday after she was found unresponsive in Lake Vermilion, located in northeastern Minnesota. Reports indicate that first responders were called when the family attempted to revive her. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead after being taken to Cook Hospital, according to reports.
She was a mother of four daughters, one of whom is Margaret, McCaffery’s mother. Margaret was a skilled basketball player at St. Paul before continuing her journey at Notre Dame.
Margaret is married to Fran, McCaffery’s father, who has had a notable coaching career at Iowa State and the University of Pennsylvania.
McCaffery and Clark, who plays for the Indiana Fever, celebrated their second anniversary in April. Clark reflected on the occasion, sharing, “One year with someone I like:) I am very grateful to you.” They met while pursuing basketball careers in Iowa.
Currently, McCaffery serves as an assistant coach for the Butler Men’s Basketball Program, having previously held a position as a basketball development coordinator for the NBA’s Pacers during the 2023-24 season.
