Sophie Cunningham of the Fever left in agony due to a knee injury

The Indiana Fever, in a tight playoff race, faced a potential setback with the injury of another key player.

Forward Sophie Cunningham was escorted to the locker room due to a knee injury sustained during a tough 99-93 road game on Sunday.

In a play during the first half at Mohegan Sun Arena, Cunningham was involved in a collision with Connecticut Sun guard Bria Hartley, who had fallen awkwardly after a pass from Caitlyn Clark.

Struggling with pain, Cunningham had to be assisted off the court. After Hartley made contact with her lower right leg, Cunningham immediately went down, visibly distressed.

Fever head coach Stephanie White didn’t have any updates on Cunningham but expressed her shock upon witnessing the injury, saying, “holy s-t.”

“It looked painful, especially the way she collapsed and was holding herself,” White said to reporters.

Cunningham had previously received a technical foul earlier in the game while competing alongside her teammates.

Clark is currently out with a significant injury, and despite having won the Commissioner’s Cup earlier this season, the Fever now sit in seventh place at 19-16, desperately battling for playoff positioning.

The team is also missing Sidney Colson (torn ACL) and Aari McDonald (broken foot) for the remainder of the season.

Cunningham recently attracted attention for her criticism of WNBA officiating, specifically regarding calls made during a game involving rookie Paige Bueckers. Following her injury, her sister Lindsay took to social media to voice her frustration toward the officiating.
