Victor Robles’ Frustration Peaks During Rehab Stint
There’s no doubt that Victor Robles, the Seattle Mariners’ right fielder, is feeling the strain. While on rehab, he suited up for the Tacoma Rainiers, the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate, in a game against the Las Vegas Aviators. And let’s just say, things didn’t exactly go as planned.
In just three innings facing pitcher Joey Estes, Robles got hit by a pitch. But instead of taking it in stride, he reacted by hurling his bat at Estes, which led to him being ejected from the game. But that wasn’t the end of it. In a fit of frustration, he tossed a snack box onto the field while heading back to the dugout, clearly letting his emotions out in a dramatic way.
One can see why Robles might be on edge—just the week before, he had been hit by three pitches. To make matters worse, Estes had delivered two pitches right at him during a previous match. That’s quite a lot to deal with.
Later that day, Robles took to Instagram to express his regret over his behavior. He mentioned that he’s been grappling with the loss of his mother. “I sincerely apologize for my reaction on the field,” he wrote. “It’s been tough not just with the game but also emotionally. Losing my mother has been incredibly challenging.”
To be honest, I think many of us can relate to that kind of frustration. If I were in his shoes, facing death in the family along with the pressures on the field, I might lash out, too.
