Discussion on the Russia-Ukraine War at the White House
European leaders recently convened at the White House, as directed by the president, to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Amid the meeting, President Donald Trump took a moment to observe a painting in the hall. This artwork, as noted in a report, portrays the president in a moment of defiance, responding to a shooting.
“It’s very good that we’ll get there. We didn’t get there, but we have a good shot to get there,” Trump remarked.
“It wasn’t a good day,” he added, reflecting on the situation. “It wasn’t a great day.”
Beside him were notable figures including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron, along with other leaders such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Finland President Alexander Stubb.
A video of this exchange was shared widely on social media.
“To be honest, we all want to see a ceasefire,” Merz stated in a conversation with a reporter, expressing doubt about the feasibility of further meetings without one.
Following the discussions, Trump described a peace agreement as “very achievable,” mentioning that efforts were underway to arrange a summit involving himself, Zelensky, and Putin.
Trump had recently concluded a summit in Alaska with President Vladimir Putin, although it did not result in a peace deal for Ukraine.
“There are only a few left,” he noted at the time. “Some of them aren’t that important. Some of them are probably the most important. But there’s a very good chance you’ll get there. We didn’t get there, but there’s a good shot to get there.”
In a separate note, Trump hinted at the possibility of another meeting with Putin in Russia, adding more complexity to the ongoing diplomatic situation.
