Contract Stalemate for Trey Hendrickson
Trey Hendrickson and the Cincinnati Bengals are still at an impasse regarding his contract situation. The defensive player, however, is ready to wait it out if needed.
In a conversation with ESPN’s Laura Rutledge during the Bengals’ preseason game against the Commanders, Hendrickson emphasized that the core issue in the negotiations revolves around guaranteed money.
According to Rutledge, both parties have come to an agreement on the contract’s length and average salary. However, Hendrickson feels his performance justifies a more substantial offer than what the team is currently putting forward.
Last season proved to be the highlight of Hendrickson’s career, as he led the NFL with 17.5 sacks.
He had initially held out but joined his teammates in Maryland for the preseason matchup just last month.
Hendrickson was clear on his stance, stating, “I don’t feel sorry for myself.” He expressed gratitude for his situation, saying, “I am a very blessed man and I trust God’s plan here.” He even pointed to the Bengals logo on his shirt, claiming, “This place is proud to me.” He aims to contribute significantly to the team’s defense.
Hendrickson was granted permission to seek a trade for his position but hasn’t found a match yet. Reports suggest that the Bengals are interested in a young defensive player not specifically focused on edge rushing, with a potential first-round pick in 2026 being discussed as part of the deal.
As he approaches his 31st birthday in December, Hendrickson is projected to earn $16 million this season. The Bengals are set to face the Browns on September 7th, creating pressure for a resolution before the regular season kicks off.
