Cubs make a major decision regarding Kyle Tucker as he reaches his lowest point

Kyle Tucker Needs a Break

Kyle Tucker is in serious need of a reset.

The Cubs’ highly anticipated offseason addition is likely headed for some time off as he grapples with a troubling slump, earning boos from the loyal fans at Wrigley Field.

His last home run came on July 19, and since then, he’s batting just .171 with a slugging percentage of .195 over his last 102 plate appearances. Consequently, the Cubs (70-54) have slipped from contention in the NL Central.

During a recent game, Tucker went 0-for-4 against the Brewers, who handily defeated the Cubs 7-0. His performance led to a chorus of boos during his last three at-bats, according to various reports.

“Kyle is frustrated. The fans are frustrated, and it’s unfortunate,” said Counsel. “When you’re not getting hits, it can look pretty bad, but he’s putting in the effort; things just aren’t falling into place. We definitely need to give him a breather.”

Despite his struggles, it’s worth noting how dramatic the drop-off has been; the Cubs are contemplating resting one of the game’s top talents.

Tucker had an impressive .281/.385/.504 line with an .889 OPS after that last homer. Now, however, he finds himself at .261/.374/.447 with an .821 OPS.

In his last 82 at-bats, he has managed only two extra-base hits and five RBIs. Fans expressed their frustration during a recent game against the Pirates when he hit a ground ball and failed to run it out.

In that disappointing game, things didn’t start off well, and he struggled to make an impact during his first three at-bats.

In June, Tucker injured his right ring finger but, according to reports, that hasn’t been an issue. Cubs president Jed Heuer stated that Tucker was healthy heading into Monday’s game.

“It’s not for lack of effort, on either the coaching side or Kyle’s,” Heuer shared. “He just hasn’t been connecting lately. The ball isn’t flying off the bat, and the exit velocity is down. I think it tends to be mechanical.”

Since the All-Star break, the Cubs have gone 13-15, and with Tucker slumping, they now find themselves five games back of a postseason spot with only nine games left against the surging Brewers.

Tucker really needs to find his rhythm if the Cubs have any hopes of making a playoff run.

His performance this offseason will also play a crucial role, especially as he’s expected to enter free agency with the potential for a lucrative contract.

“He’s simply too talented not to turn things around,” Heuer remarked. “Once he starts to find that groove again, I expect him to heat up, just like he did in April.”

“Everyone, including him, notices the same trend—too many ground balls and not enough solid hits. He’s working to change that.”
