Trump National Doral Back on PGA Tour Schedule
Trump National Doral is set to return to the PGA Tour calendar. The Miami resort, owned by Donald Trump, will host a significant PGA Tour event during the first weekend of May. This tournament conveniently slots into a six-week stretch that kicks off with the Masters and wraps up with the PGA Championship.
Interestingly, there are three signature events scheduled over four weeks between these two major tournaments.
Brian Lolap, the CEO of the PGA Tour, expressed excitement about showcasing top players at such iconic venues.
As of now, the title sponsorship for what is currently the Miami Championship has yet to be confirmed.
Doral has been part of the PGA Tour since 1962. However, after Trump acquired the resort, securing a consistent title sponsor proved challenging. Consequently, the event was relocated to Mexico City in 2016, with a memorable, if somewhat cheeky, comment to then-presidential candidate Trump: “I hope they have lure insurance,” referencing the tournament’s move.
Though the PGA Tour distanced itself from Trump Doral for a while, the Saudi-backed LIV Golf has embraced it and held a tournament there for four years. That particular streak will conclude in 2026, when another LIV event will occur at Trump National, just outside Washington, D.C.
Leading up to LIV Golf’s 2025 event at Trump Doral, Trump has voiced optimism about a potential merger between the competing tours.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan labeled Trump as a “facilitator” earlier this year, amidst ongoing discussions that have persisted for over two years without a definitive agreement.
In April, Trump remarked, “I hope that in the end the two tours will merge. That’s good. I’m involved in that too.” His views echoed Monahan’s sentiments from March regarding the consultations being authentic and driven at the highest levels.
In Monahan’s words, these talks are significantly strengthened by Trump’s willingness to play a unifying role.
Trump has long been a golf enthusiast and holds strong beliefs about the game’s potential. His influence, it seems, could play a pivotal role in reintegrating the sport. The new Miami Championship is slated to kick off during the week of April 27, 2026, with the opening round taking place on April 30.
