JD Vance spearheads initiative to prevent the UK from obtaining US Apple user data

US Vice President Negotiates Digital Privacy with UK

Washington – Vice President JD Vance, dubbed the “veep of technology,” has successfully negotiated with the UK to withdraw requests for accessing Apple users’ data, according to US officials on Tuesday.

The UK had initially sought a “backdoor” from Apple, which would allow government access to user cloud storage data, aimed at helping in investigations related to terrorism and other crimes.

This request has raised alarms in the United States, especially as Republican lawmakers have been accused of infringing upon citizens’ privacy.

Vance has advocates for digital privacy, pushing British officials to abandon their demands. His efforts reflect his commitment to protecting user data.

With a background in technology, having worked with PayPal’s co-founder Peter Thiel in San Francisco, Vance is acutely aware of these issues.

He has also expressed concerns about the impact of AI on personal relationships and has taken a stance on social media censorship, particularly in Europe.

In his first significant address as Vice President, he highlighted the threat of censorship, asserting that it’s a more pressing issue for Europe than external threats from Russia or China. “The threat I’m most concerned about vis-a-vis Europe is not Russia, not China, not other outside actors,” he remarked to German officials.

Tarshi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, played a role in these negotiations as well.

“In recent months, I have collaborated closely with my UK partners, including President Trump and Vice President Vance, to ensure that American personal data remains secure and our constitutional rights are upheld,” Gabbard shared on X.

“Consequently, the UK has agreed to retract its request for Apple to access protected, encrypted data of American citizens, eliminating a ‘backdoor’ that posed a risk to civil liberties.”
