Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo are back at practice with the Giants

Giants Injury Updates: Positive News from Practice

While Andrew Thomas’ return to practice took the spotlight, the Giants received additional positive injury updates on Tuesday. Malik Nabers, who has dealt with a nagging toe issue, along with shoulder pain and back tightness, was back at practice, though he only participated in individual drills. There’s a strong expectation he’ll be ready for the opening game against the Commanders.

Meanwhile, Cam Skattebo also returned to the field, engaging in team drills after missing time due to a hamstring injury. He had previously returned only to experience what head coach Brian Daboll referred to as a “setback,” which sidelined him until Tuesday.

On a different note, linebacker Abdul Carter gained significant attention after he reacted to an NFL clip showing him being knocked down by a chip block during the Giants’ second preseason game against the Jets. He humorously remarked, “Might be the only highlight of the Jets all season, and we put [belt to ass],” adding that the hit was like “bbq.”

Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen noted that Carter wasn’t pleased with the clip going viral. “Definitely not,” he said. “He’s a super-competitive person, and that’s just how he’s wired. It was him being competitive, which is part of what makes him a great player.” Bullen also highlighted that Carter’s reputation is such that opponents feel compelled to target him with chip blocks, showing the level of respect he commands.

Bullen further emphasized that while mistakes happen, Carter has produced many impressive plays as well. “It was one bad play. They happen. Keep moving. He knows what it means,” he stated, acknowledging Carter’s frustration over the situation.

Assistant General Manager Brandon Brown shared his thoughts on the overall direction of the Giants’ defense after this offseason’s investments. “Look at how we constructed the team. There was a clear focus on rush and coverage, which lends itself to a strong identity,” he explained, mentioning the additions of players like Abdul and Chauncey Golston in free agency to bolster both pass rush and turnovers.
