Musk’s Political Party Plans Likely Paused

Just a few months after its launch, Elon Musk’s “America Party” seems to be on hold.

Sources claim Musk shared with associates that he prefers focusing on his businesses rather than creating a party that might siphon votes from the GOP. The Wall Street Journal reported this based on insights from those familiar with his intentions.

It’s noted that Musk is trying to preserve his connection with Vice President JD Vance. Allegedly, he expressed concern that starting a new party might damage his relationship with the vice president.

The idea is currently in limbo, but Musk’s supporters indicated to the WSJ that he hasn’t definitively ruled out the possibility of launching the party later, potentially looking at a mid-term effort in 2026.

After months of collaboration with the government’s efficiency department, the mask mandate at the Trump White House concluded on May 30. While they seemed to have a cordial relationship initially, soon thereafter, tensions between Musk and Trump emerged.

Post-administration, Musk took to social media, expressing frustration with government spending. He criticized a considerable Congressional spending bill, declaring shame for those who backed it, and stood firm against excessive spending.

Musk’s bid for a new party gained some traction when he questioned followers if a new political force was needed. Following a poll, he proclaimed, “The people have spoken. We need a new party for the 80% in the center!”

A month later, on Independence Day, he revisited the idea, mentioning that it might be time to break free from the traditional two-party system. In a poll he conducted, a significant majority supported his notion of forming an “American Party.”

However, Musk’s recent divergence from Trump prompted the former president to characterize Musk’s political aspirations as “silly” and expressed disappointment over the direction Musk had taken.

Despite some clashes, their interactions seem to have calmed. By late July, Trump even mentioned in a post that he hoped for Musk’s success and wanted him to thrive, seemingly downplaying concerns about government subsidies impacting Musk’s businesses.

A representative for Musk didn’t provide any comments regarding the matter.
