Vance Critiques Newsom’s Strategy
Vice President JD Vance has dismissed California Governor Gavin Newsom’s attempts to emulate President Trump as misguided. He mentioned new statistics that suggest federal initiatives to combat crime in Washington, D.C., are achieving positive results.
Vance’s remarks come as Newsom, who may consider a presidential run in 2028, tries to adopt Trump’s distinct style, particularly on social media and his approach to political rivals.
During an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Vance shared his views on Newsom’s unusual strategy and whether Democratic leaders should mirror Trump’s tone. He noted that “the brilliance of Trump’s success comes from his authenticity.”
“He’s just being himself,” Vance said. “Authenticity matters. It’s better to have genuine conversations about issues.”
He continued, “Newsom can try to imitate Trump, but they won’t succeed unless they focus on meaningful policies that benefit the American public.”
When asked for advice to Democrats, Vance responded, “It’s really not that complicated. Just be real. If they did that, things might improve.” Yet he also expressed doubt, emphasizing that “Democrats often struggle to break free from their patterns.”
He highlighted a backlash from the Democratic side when Trump authorized federal forces to assist D.C. police in handling crime.
Vance asserted, “When it comes to addressing crime, they label Trump as extreme for taking action, but his methods are sometimes more grounded than they’d like to admit.”
He previously shared that crime statistics indicate “violent crime has decreased in D.C. by 35% over nine days,” with a “55% drop in robberies in the same time frame.” Trump had signed an executive order to treat crime as a pressing concern.
Vance emphasized that “addressing lawlessness is fundamentally about political will.” He believes that dedicated efforts can restore safety in cities, including D.C. “We can create safe environments if we just enforce the law effectively,” he remarked.
“I urge Americans to realize that living in fear doesn’t have to be the norm. We can achieve safety and security.”
He concluded, “If we manage our urban areas well, we can foster a safe community for all.”
