Coach believes Micah Parsons will be ready for Week 1 against the Eagles

Cowboys Kick Off 2025 Season Amid Contract Uncertainty with Micah Parsons

The Dallas Cowboys are gearing up to start the 2025 NFL regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles, but there’s a significant question on everyone’s mind: Will star edge rusher Micah Parsons take the field?

While both Parsons and the Cowboys front office have been tight-lipped regarding any potential contract extension, manager Brian Schottenheimer expressed optimism on Wednesday, suggesting that Parsons will indeed play in Week 1.

“Yeah, I feel good about it,” Schottenheimer stated when asked if Parsons would be ready for the opener, adding, “It feels good to see Micah there against the Eagles.”

Currently, Parsons is at the Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, California, observing practices from the sidelines. He was seen alongside team owner and general manager Jerry Jones but hasn’t engaged in discussions with the front office regarding his contract situation.

Despite Parsons’ requests for a trade, Jones publicly stated his intention to keep Parsons on the team. “I tell the fans, ‘Don’t lose sleep over this,'” he remarked.

Parsons himself has shared frustrations related to the contract dialogues during training camp, explaining, “Yes, I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and play in front of the best fans.” His passion for the team and its legacy is evident.

Amid the ongoing uncertainties, it’s worth noting that many speculate about the future of Parsons, who has rapidly established himself as one of the league’s premier defensive players.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the relationship between Parsons and the Cowboys may be deteriorating. He suggested that both parties could be heading toward a “divorce” if discussions do not resume. “If you’re not talking, you can’t get the deal done,” Schefter explained. He pointed out that since March or early April last year, there has been no negotiation, making it seem increasingly personal.

For the impatient fans and followers, Parsons is still expected to play this season under his fifth-year option, valued at around $24 million. If the Cowboys fail to reach a long-term agreement, they maintain the option to franchise-tag him for two additional seasons beyond 2025.
