Corruption Charges Filed Against Mayor Adams’ Aide

Ingrid Lewis Martin, a close associate of Mayor Eric Adams, is facing allegations of accepting over $75,000 in bribes in return for political favors tied to her influential position in city hall, according to recent criminal charges.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office revealed four sealed criminal charges against Lewis Martin on Thursday.

One of the allegations involves Glenn Martin II, Adams’ former top aide and son, who allegedly sought to misappropriate a lucrative immigration contract and facilitated the quick approval of a karaoke bar in exchange for money.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated, “Ingrid Lewis Martin was involved in a typical bribery scheme that significantly affected city government.” He added that Lewis Martin frequently dismissed civil servant expertise, benefiting financially while New Yorkers faced losses.

This new wave of corruption claims surfaces as Adams attempts to regain the trust of New York City voters after a scandal-ridden first term that saw his approval ratings plummet, complicating his re-election efforts.

Despite his declining popularity in recent polls, Adams has not distanced himself from Lewis Martin. “Ingrid has devoted herself to the people of New York City. She deserves the presumption of innocence and support from those who truly know her,” he mentioned following reports of the charges.

Lewis Martin had previously faced bribery allegations last year, accused of receiving $100,000 from two hoteliers to cover expenses related to her son’s Porsche, which is also mentioned in the indictment.

Just days ago, she stepped down from her position in City Hall, maintaining that she has not violated any laws.
