49ers Wide Receiver DeMarcus Robinson Faces Suspension
The San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver group experienced another setback this week. Coach Kyle Shanahan announced that DeMarcus Robinson will be sidelined for three games due to a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Robinson, who was signed after winning a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, joined the 49ers from the Los Angeles Rams two years ago. Shanahan revealed during an interview with KNBR Radio that Robinson had been suspended following a failure to contest a misdemeanor DUI charge. The NFL has not commented on the situation, as per the Associated Press.
Initially viewed as a key target for quarterback Brock Purdy, Robinson’s absence will mean he joins other teammates like Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, and Russell Gage on the sidelines at the start of the season.
Last week, Robinson expressed some anxiety regarding the league’s decision, stating, “We just wait for the outcome and see what happens with it. I really don’t know the timeline. I’m waiting to hear from them.” It’s always a bit nerve-wracking, I think, when your future hangs in the balance like that.
During his previous season, Robinson achieved 31 receptions for 505 yards and a career-high of seven touchdowns. It’s a shame this situation has unfolded, as he was really starting to find his rhythm.
Additionally, the 49ers recently made headlines by trading Deebo Samuel to Washington. The team is definitely undergoing some changes as they prepare for the 2025 season.
