ODNI Transformation Under Director Tulsi Gabbard
Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, has made significant waves with her recent changes to the intelligence community. Her initiative, dubbed “ODNI 2.0,” aims to streamline operations by cutting down on staff and shutting down what she described as “redundant” intelligence centers that have faced issues related to deficits and political misuse.
One noteworthy closure is the Foreign Malicious Impact Center (FMIC). A senior adviser from ODNI revealed that this center was often used against Americans, particularly under the previous administration. The adviser noted how the former President Biden had leveraged it against conservatives and gun owners.
According to an insider at ODNI, the reforms include nearly a 50% reduction in staffing. This drastic cut is seen as essential since, left unchecked, the departments would risk creating situations reminiscent of Russia’s Devacs. Moreover, concerns about confidentiality arose with revelations about the narrative manipulation surrounding the Obama administration’s alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 election.
Following Gabbard’s announcement, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton expressed his support for the changes. He highlighted that Congress established ODNI to facilitate coordination across the intelligence community while maintaining a lean approach. Cotton sees this announcement as a crucial step towards redefining ODNI’s original purpose and enhancing its efficacy as a national security instrument for the President.
A Senate source remarked, “Gabbard really hit it out of the park.” They indicated that her proposals align perfectly with what many conservatives have been advocating for. If these reforms had been introduced earlier, they believe the rumors of a Russian conspiracy might have been avoided altogether.
Senator Rand Paul labeled ODNI 2.0 a positive measure designed to “clean up” the so-called deep state. Additionally, Senators Marsha Blackburn and Markwayne Mullin expressed enthusiasm, noting the projected savings of $700 million for taxpayers.
The Senate Republican X Account shared their praise for Gabbard, particularly for her focus on steering the division back to its original mission.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford echoed this sentiment, looking forward to collaborating with Gabbard in refining ODNI to maximize its benefits for Americans.
