Max Fried eager to reclaim his strong performance against the Yankees

Max Fried’s Challenging Season with the Yankees

Max Fried’s inaugural season with the Yankees has turned into quite the ordeal, one that began as a promising venture.

In his initial 17 starts, the left-handed pitcher was performing exceptionally well, making the hefty $218 million investment by the Yankees seem worthwhile.

But recently, his performance has dipped significantly, posting a troubling 6.80 ERA over his last nine appearances.

This downturn could be mitigated if he can shift the momentum back in his favor as the Yankees head into the postseason. The right game could make all the difference.

Fried acknowledges that he’s aware of the need to regain his previous form, especially with an important matchup against the Red Sox coming up.

“Every game I pitch, I’m looking to get back on track. I’m focused on meeting my own standards,” Fried shared ahead of the series opener against Boston. “As a team, we’ve been playing well. Now it’s my turn to step up and contribute more.”

He had a rough outing in St. Louis, allowing a season-high seven runs, which was tough to swallow.

Nonetheless, manager Aaron Boone pointed out some positives from that performance, noting moments where Fried showed promise early in the game.

But if those moments don’t lead to consistent production, they won’t carry much weight.

The Yankees had a strong start, winning eight of Fried’s first eleven appearances, but they’ve lost seven of his recent eleven starts.

“At this stage of my career, winning is all that counts,” Fried insisted. “Statistics are secondary. My role is to help us secure victories, and that’s what I need to focus on.”

It’s unusual not to see consistent success on the field for an extended period.

Despite his struggles, the Yankees entered Thursday with a five-game winning streak and were leading the AL wild card race.

“Honestly, it’s frustrating,” Fried admitted. “I know I need to switch things up. We have to find a way to deliver results.”

Boone suggested that Fried might be lacking command in his recent starts, indicating he may be battling some inner challenges.

This has certainly affected his performance on the mound.

“Max’s athleticism and diverse skills are two of his key strengths,” Boone commented, suggesting that a lack of command may be hampering his effective use of them.

The 31-year-old had previously shown leadership when he stepped up as the ace in Gerrit Cole’s absence. For the Yankees to achieve their goals, they really need Fried to find his rhythm again.

“My teammates have done a fantastic job supporting me,” Fried reflected. “Now it’s on me to have the confidence to perform.”
