Canadians Opting Out of US Trips
Recent data indicates a notable decrease in the number of Canadians returning from trips to the US.
Statistics Canada released these findings on August 11th.
In July 2025, there was a significant drop of 1.7 million return trips made by Canadian residents traveling by car from the US—a decline of about 36.9% compared to the same month in 2024. This marked the seventh straight month of decreases year-over-year.
Furthermore, the number of Canadian residents traveling back to Canada by car in July 2025 fell to 1.8 million, reflecting a 7.4% decline from July 2024. This trend also represents the sixth consecutive month of reduced travel compared to the previous year.
A report from Forbes in July noted that Canadians primarily use road trips for their travel.
In other news, it was reported on Monday that Air Canada has suspended its plans to resume operations following a strike by flight attendants.
The airline halted its plans over a month-long dispute regarding wages, with flight attendants asking for payment during “ground-time” work before takeoff and after landing. Currently, they are only compensated between the closure and reopening of the aircraft.
A previous report by Breitbart News revealed that many Canadians are hesitant to travel to the US due to tariffs imposed in an effort to protect their economy.
Back in January, the White House had confirmed plans from Trump to impose new tariffs on major trading partners to bolster American industries and national security.
Interestingly, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney referred to Trump as a “transforming president” during a visit to the White House in May. He emphasized Trump’s intense focus on the economy, American workers, and efforts to secure borders and combat the opioid crisis.
