Kamala Harris criticized for her book tour about her unsuccessful presidential run

Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced criticism online on Thursday as she announced an international tour to promote her new book, tied to the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

The 60-year-old, currently without a job, will kick off a series of events across 15 cities starting September 24, right after releasing her memoir titled “107 Days.” This book offers insights into what Democrats are calling “the shortest presidential campaign in modern history” from her perspective.

In a post on X, she shared a brief video montage of herself laughing during the campaign, but it was quickly met with skepticism. Many regarded it as a peculiar way to commemorate a significant loss to President Trump.

“I’ve never seen anyone celebrate a loss like that,” remarked one user, calling it a “loser tour.”

Another commenter quipped about the book, saying, “How to spend 2.5 billion in 107 days.”

Politicians and commentators chimed in too, with some mocking the idea of her book tour—from New York and Canada to Washington, D.C., and London—as a detailed account of her tough defeat.

North Carolina GOP Rep. Virginia Fox referred to Harris’s tour as a “national comedy tour.”

White House Deputy Chief Abigail Jackson questioned the rationale behind the tour, asking, “Is she on tour about how she lost?”

She continued, expressing disbelief at the self-awareness of Harris’s team, suggesting it might not be a great strategy to promote a book about a past electoral defeat if they’re considering a future campaign.

Media Podcast host Stephen L. Miller also commented on the situation.

In her announcement, Harris mentioned plans to reflect on the lessons learned during her campaign and emphasized a desire for unity in moving forward.

She entered the race for the Democratic presidency following a poor debate against Trump shortly after former President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign on July 21, 2024—107 days before the upcoming election.

Despite an initial wave of positive media attention, several polls showed challenges, leading to eventual losses against Republican rivals. Harris became the first Democratic candidate in two decades to lose the popular vote.

The tour is slated to conclude in Miami on November 20.
