Quarterback Scenario in the NFL
This NFL season finds many teams in need of quarterbacks, yet the options feel limited. The recent draft didn’t offer much hope, but the Tennessee Titans have made a notable choice by selecting Come Ward as their starting quarterback from the outset. He’s the only rookie slated to start in week one and is regarded as the top pick in both Dynasty League rookie drafts and 2QB leagues.
Path to Playing Time
The Giants are gearing up to start Russell Wilson this season, although it seems they’ve invested quite a bit in the position, choosing him as the 25th overall pick. While Wilson’s current performance isn’t likely to secure his long-term future with the team, they’re aiming for a consistent season from him to keep their playoff hopes alive, especially backed by a strong defensive line. Should things not pan out as expected, it wouldn’t be surprising to see DART take the field later this season.
So far in the preseason, Wilson has shown promise, completing 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards along with a touchdown against the Bills. He’s also rushed for 24 yards on three attempts. His ability to run adds an appealing aspect for fantasy players, though it’s still just one preseason game. The encouraging sign is that he appears to have a genuine shot this season, which may serve as a foundation for 2026.
After the surprising retirement of Derek Kerr, the Saints moved quickly to draft Shough with the eighth pick in the second round. However, he has yet to outperform Spencer Ruttler for the starting job, which seems concerning. While Shough might find himself on the field from week one, it’s unlikely he’ll hold that role throughout the season. He might prove useful in deep 2QB leagues, but his prospects aren’t particularly thrilling.
Milllow finds himself as QB3 behind Sam Arnold and Drew Locke, but his running capabilities could allow him to get some playing time sooner rather than later. In his first preseason game, he showcased his speed, although passing wasn’t his strong suit. If he can enhance his skills as a passer, he might offer more fantasy potential than other quarterbacks taken around the same spot in the draft.
Dillon Gabriel/Chedure Sanders, Browns
The Browns seem to be addressing their earlier misstep of signing Desshaun Watson by selecting quarterbacks in the fourth and fifth rounds. They’ve also added Joe Flacco as their current QB1—this being Flacco’s third team—alongside Kenny Pickett, a previous first-round pick. Gabriel competed with Sanders this summer, but an oblique injury might hold Sanders back from the second preseason game following his debut performance. Gabriel will have an opportunity in week two, but neither is likely to surpass Flacco as the starter. It seems Pickett will probably serve as the backup as the season kicks off. However, if things don’t improve for the Browns, both quarterbacks could see the chance to move up the depth chart.
