John Stamos seeks his transformative experience after ‘Full House’ success.

John Stamos seeks his transformative experience after 'Full House' success.

John Stamos Reflects on His Career and Fatherhood

John Stamos isn’t ready to step back from his iconic role as Uncle Jesse. In a recent interview, he expressed a desire for more authenticity in his characters, saying, “I want to play a little more realistic.” At 62, the actor is looking for projects akin to “Breaking Bad.” He acknowledges that many primarily remember him as Jesse Katsopolis, the Elvis-loving uncle from “Full House,” a character that has stuck with him throughout his career.

As Stamos explores different roles, he finds himself contemplating what he wants to accept. He humorously adds, “People can call me Uncle Jesse all day. I love it now.” There’s still that fondness for his past work, which allows him to reflect on opportunities like collaborating with Danny DeVito.

New Projects on the Horizon

Stamos describes his upcoming film, “Drug,” a horror project where he plays a serial killer. He’s also set to appear in the second season of “Palm Royale,” a comedy featuring Kristen Wiig as a lawyer/gynecologist. “I just pinch myself sometimes,” he shared. “Being in scenes with these great people means a lot.” Despite his ongoing connection to “Full House,” he feels confident in his ability to take on diverse roles, stating, “I’ve proven to myself that I can do other things.”

He mentioned the universal themes in his new projects, saying they provide a needed dose of positivity and good entertainment. Reflecting on the past, Stamos recognizes his on-screen persona as a great father, and in real life, he welcomed his son, Billy, in 2018.

Parenting Adventures

Stamos takes pride in his parenting skills, although he admitted to a recent parenting blunder. After a long day at Disneyland, he accidentally put anti-lice cream on his son’s toothbrush instead of toothpaste. “It started to taste strange and odd,” he recalled. “We’re all just trying our best as parents.” He also strives to impress his seven-year-old, saying, “Nothing was working on what I was doing, so I just started asking, ‘Can I speak up there?'” He entertained his son with voices from Marvel characters and pirate impressions.

Interestingly, Billy enjoys watching “Full House.” He often laughs and recites the famous catchphrase, “You got it, dude.” Stamos appreciates this connection, reflecting on his journey since marrying Caitlyn McHugh in 2018. He credits his sobriety, which began a decade ago, for giving him the clarity to experience life and loved ones fully.

McHugh previously mentioned their marriage’s success hinges on good communication and spending quality time together. She has noted that their son resembles Stamos, joking, “[Billy] is just like his dad.”

A Humble Perspective

Despite being a well-known figure in Hollywood, Stamos remains grounded. “I’m shocked that I’m still around,” he admits. “There are many who can do the job, so my reputation has helped.” He feels grateful for his current projects and the chance to work alongside talented actors like Kristen Wiig.

Last week, he celebrated his 62nd birthday with a rooftop gathering in New York, sharing a shirtless photo and expressing gratitude for the love he’s received throughout the years. “At age 62, I learned that I can’t wash away the best of my life…lol, love, and gratitude,” he wrote, reflecting on his life’s journey.
