Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Talks Micah Parsons Negotiations
The Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, is placing blame on Micah Parsons’ agents regarding the hold-up in contract talks. In a recent appearance on Michael Irvin’s show, Jones expressed that he believed an agreement was close before the agents intervened.
Jones mentioned, “When we wanted to send details to the agent, the agent told us to paste it on our a-.” He then stated that he and Parsons had discussed the terms and had come up with an agreement that included guarantees. “I’ve already negotiated it,” he added, emphasizing that the agent’s involvement was complicating matters further.
Parsons, who has been sidelined during this negotiation period, expressed his frustration on social media, indicating he didn’t want to miss out on discussions without his agent’s involvement. He is currently in the last season of his five-year rookie contract, earning $24 million, but he is reportedly looking for an average salary of around $40 million moving forward. Jones mentioned that the deal they were discussing would have made Parsons one of the highest-paid players, next to quarterbacks.
According to Jones, the negotiation really revolves around respect and recognition of Parsons’ talents. He insisted, “The world would know that if I knew what I offered to him, I wanted Micah, and he knows what I offered to him.”
Despite the ongoing tensions, Cowboys’ assistant coach Brian Schottenheimer appeared optimistic about Parsons joining the team when they face the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4th. “It feels good to have Micah there,” he noted.
