George Santos laments how his 'dignity has been compromised' by his time in jail.

Rep. George Santos can’t seem to escape the public eye. Even while incarcerated in New Jersey, he shares weekly entries from his prison life, detailing experiences like wearing state-issued jumpsuits and even mentioning “sandpaper soap.”

In his piece titled “The Life Behind My Life,” Santos expresses his grievances about his role in the prison kitchen, highlighting his concerns about “the erosion of his dignity.”

His current wardrobe includes a “fluorescent yellow…state issued polyester” jumpsuit, and he’s not happy about mold and malfunctioning air conditioning.

Santos, 37, was expelled from Congress in December 2023 and, after pleading guilty to aggravated wire fraud and identity theft in August 2024, began his prison sentence in April. He’s now among 46 inmates at the moderate-security FCI Fairton Prison in Fairfield Township.

Interestingly, he shares this facility with Sam Miele, a fundraiser from his previous campaign, who is serving a year for impersonating a high-ranking aide while collecting donations for Santos.

Reflecting on his situation, Santos notes, “From the first day I came across a character that could appear in a novel.” He recalls how, shortly after his arrival, someone approached him, saying, “You’re a member of the House of Representatives, but you can call me a member of the Senate,” humorously noting it was his “welcome committee.”

He finds some comfort in seeing Miele, whom he describes as “a very clever man” caught in the turmoil of his life. Santos reflects on how much has changed as they now find themselves reminiscing about the past in a prison setting, contrasting their previous high-profile discussions about campaign strategies.

“We talk about what is referred to as a ‘fall from grace,’ but we also discuss rebuilding and looking forward, emphasizing that this isn’t the end of our story,” he wrote in another entry.
