Miles Taylor, a former official from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), mentioned on Saturday that John Bolton, the former national security adviser, might be the next target of President Trump’s FBI after agents conducted a raid at his home in the Washington area early Friday.
During an MSNBC interview with Jonathan Capehart, Taylor, who was the deputy chief of staff at DHS during Trump’s first term, expressed concerns about potential repercussions from the administration. “Yeah, we expect that. Really, we expect that,” he said, noting the bizarre nature of the situation. “We’re discussing this openly, so we can all hear. It’s like we have a presidential revenge campaign with potential targets being identified.”
He recounted how, upon waking and seeing the news, his wife had predicted, “It’s coming.”
The FBI confirmed that they had conducted “court-sanctioned law enforcement activities” at Bolton’s home in Bethesda, Maryland, related to his handling of classified information.
This search represented a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Trump and Bolton, with critics viewing it as a possible act of retribution.
Taylor, who had previously suggested that Trump maintains a kind of “blacklist” for targeting individuals, reiterated this sentiment during his MSNBC appearance. “People don’t have to feel sorry for John Bolton or me. Maybe they don’t like us, but this isn’t about personal feelings,” he stated. “It’s about ensuring that the criminal justice system works fairly for all Americans.”
He emphasized that it’s the president who is using his office’s power to reshape society, indicating that justice often appears to favor him, and questioned where this could lead next.
Trump informed reporters on Friday that he had not been briefed ahead of the raid but expected to receive an explanation later. Bolton has frequently criticized Trump’s foreign policy strategies and was also a witness during the earlier impeachment inquiries.
Meanwhile, Vice President Vance defended the FBI’s actions during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” As of now, Bolton has not issued any comments regarding the raid.
