Senator Cruz Endorses Chip Roy for Texas Attorney General
Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, announced his endorsement of Representative Chip Roy on Saturday as Roy seeks to become the next attorney general of Texas.
Roy, who launched his campaign just a couple of days ago, is positioned to take over from the current attorney general, Ken Paxton, who has opted not to seek reelection in 2026 in favor of a run for the U.S. Senate against fellow Texas Republican, Senator John Cornyn.
Cruz expressed his support by mentioning the strong slate of conservative candidates in the race, including state senators Joan Huffman and Mays Middleton, along with a former U.S. Attorney General focused on legal policy.
“We have several outstanding candidates vying for the Texas Attorney General position,” Cruz remarked in a statement. “All have been my friends and steadfast supporters for years. Texas is fortunate to have such powerful conservative leadership during these times,” he added.
Cruz also pointed out that Roy was his first chief of staff and has been a close ally for more than a dozen years. “We’ve been in countless fights together,” Cruz noted. “Chip is unwavering in his commitment to conservative values.” He continued, emphasizing Roy’s more than two decades of dedication to Texas, stating, “He exemplifies the courage and integrity needed to protect our nation. I have no doubt he will uphold the law and defend the rights of Texans.”
In a campaign video shared on X, Roy spoke about maintaining Texas’s longstanding legacy of freedom and self-determination. “Texas has a rich tradition of standing up for our homes, our freedoms, and our communities,” he declared. “I’m running for attorney general to keep that legacy alive… fighting for Texas at every turn.” He also conveyed pride in representing the 21st Congressional District and highlighted his efforts to support President Trump’s agenda.
Roy stressed, “Texas is facing challenges from radical leftists and outside forces threatening our way of life. It’s time to draw a line in the sand.” He declared his commitment to defending Texans’ rights and the future of the state as their attorney general.
