Vance discusses 2028 discussions with Trump: ‘He wants me to concentrate on performing well’

Vance Discusses Trump’s Potential Succession and Focus on Governance

Vice President Vance expressed his hope that when discussions arise about Trump’s potential succession in 2028, the attention will remain on the current administration’s efforts.

During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Vance was questioned by host Kristen Welker regarding any conversations he might have had with Trump about passing the torch. He responded that they cover a range of topics.

“If it’s making headlines, then the President and I probably discussed it. However, I believe the President is concentrating on delivering results for the American people. He wants me to do the same,” Vance stated.

He continued, emphasizing the importance of focusing on practical outcomes: “If we manage our responsibilities well—making America safer, fostering prosperity, ensuring that young people can afford homes, and promoting peace globally—then politics will take care of itself.”

Recently, Trump indicated it was premature to name a prospective Republican candidate for 2028, yet he acknowledged Vance as the “most likely” choice. Trump also mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who campaigned for presidency in 2016, as a potential strong partner for Vance.

When questioned about his role in the MAGA movement, Vance clarified, “No. I’m just a vice president striving to do a good job for the American people.”

“Politics tends to take care of itself. If I perform well and the President keeps succeeding, we’ll see the benefits,” he added.

Vance highlighted the upcoming 2026 midterm elections as a crucial focus for Americans before looking ahead to 2028.

“Before diving into discussions about the next three and a half years, let’s pause on politics and concentrate on governing. Once we return to political matters, we should prioritize the midterm elections,” he remarked.

He also mentioned that he has not had any discussions with billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk regarding the year 2028, noting reports that Musk has paused his plans to establish a new party that would support the vice president.
