The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly letting go of Shiro Sanders after his ejection from the game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night.
This development was first noted by the NFL Network. The Buccaneers need to trim their roster down to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon, and Sanders was vying for a safety position, likely behind Antoine Winfield Jr., Cavon Meriweather, Rashad Wisdom, and Will Brooks.
It seems that Sanders’ ejection may have influenced the team’s decision to part ways. During the second quarter, he was involved in an altercation with Bills tight end Zack Davidson, throwing a punch in front of officials.
“You can’t throw punches in this league. That’s not allowed. They’re going to take you with you every time,” said Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles after the game. “You have to grow from it.”
Sanders, who is the son of Deion Sanders and brother of Chedur Sanders, joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent. Before this incident, he had a reasonable chance to make the final roster.
Following his father’s appointment as head coach at Buffalo, Sanders moved to Colorado, having originally gone to South Carolina.
During his time at Colorado, Sanders participated in 21 games from the 2023 to 2024 season. He tallied 137 tackles, recorded one interception, and achieved a sack during his career; notably, that interception was returned for a touchdown.
