Tommy Fleetwood Wins Tour Championship
Tommy Fleetwood has experienced the pressure of leading after 54 holes three times this season, but he finally broke through to claim his first PGA Tour victory.
This occurred on Sunday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, where Fleetwood made a crucial putt on the 18th green, finishing the tournament at 18 under.
He’s long been recognized as a top golfer, yet sealing the deal in a final round has often eluded him. The emotional journey he’s endured only made his victory at the Tour Championship more rewarding—an exhilarating moment that brought cheers from both him and the fans.
In the final pairing with Fleetwood, Patrick Cantlay found himself unable to convert from just outside the 18th green, ultimately finishing in second place at 15 under, alongside Russell Henley. Meanwhile, Scotty Scheffler, Cameron Young, and Corey Connors rounded out the top four, finishing at 14 under.
There was a palpable sense of impending victory as Fleetwood approached the 15th tee. However—maybe it was nerves—because he had made an errant shot just the day before, landing in water nearly 200 yards out. Another mistake like that would have been disastrous, but he managed to keep calm, turning what could have been a daunting par into a manageable bogey. After that, he closed out the round with a 2-under finish and a sense of relief.
“I genuinely love coming to work every day and striving to compete with the world’s best,” Fleetwood expressed after his win. “Each moment is about trying to improve. I feel incredibly fortunate, especially when I look around at the level of talent, like Rory McIlroy.”
Despite the heartbreak of earlier seasons, Fleetwood’s win at 34 marks a significant moment in his career.
As he celebrates his victory with the FedEx Cup Trophy, the next step is clear: Fleetwood will represent Team Europe as an automatic qualifier for the 2025 Ryder Cup, which is set to take place at Beth Page Black in September.
