A GameStop Customer Made $115K in Bitcoin from a $13 Card Pack

Simply put

  • The collector recently made a significant gain from a $13 card he bought at GameStop, walking away with a single Bitcoin.
  • This card came from the Cardsmiths’ Currency series, which has cards that can be redeemed for actual cryptocurrency.
  • It marks at least the third instance of someone redeeming 1 Bitcoin from this series last year.

While GameStop doesn’t sell Bitcoin directly, a customer recently opened a pack of cards there and ended up winning nearly $115,000 worth of Bitcoin.

The Arizona-based collector had a pack of Cardsmith currency trading cards and announced the discovery of a Bitcoin card. As of now, Bitcoin’s trading price is just under $115,000.

“I honestly didn’t think something like that could happen,” he shared anonymously with Cardsmith.

Cardsmiths Currency Series includes cards that offer redemption for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dogecoin, with a maximum redemption of 1 BTC or 1 ETH.

Collectors can grab a themed card pack for about $13.25, and the odds of finding a cryptocurrency redemption card are roughly 1 in 192, potentially leading to a staggering profit based on Bitcoin’s current value.

The recent card pull highlights the excitement surrounding the hunt for a full Bitcoin card, with this being at least the third successful redemption in the past year.

While the collector is entitled to the full Bitcoin, he mentioned that he only holds on to 0.5 BTC due to a promise made on Reddit before he drew the card.

“Let me introduce myself. I’m just a collector who made a promise a while back,” he explained. “I was documenting my pulls from a stash of cards and vowed to donate half of any after-tax value I find to charity.”

“It’s a bit of a lesson about keeping promises and spending money where it counts,” he added.

All Cardsmiths Series 4 Currency Cards are currently sold out online, but the new Space Series is available for $13.75 per pack on their store.

However, the odds of pulling a cryptocurrency card remain steep, as only one out of 192 packs is expected to contain such a card.

A representative from Cardsmith has not yet responded to requests for comment.
