Donald Trump recently criticized Chris Christie following Christie’s appearance on ABC News “This Week.” Trump questioned the credibility of Christie, stating, “Can anyone believe what sloppy Chris says? Remember how he lied about the dangerous and fatal closure of the George Washington Bridge? For justice, should we perhaps revisit that serious situation?”

In a post, he referred to Christie as “Sloppy Chris” and commented on the ABC segment, mentioning how poorly he thought Jonathan Karl looked. Trump reiterated his claims about Christie’s alleged dishonesty regarding the bridge closure, suggesting that Christie sacrificed others to evade consequences, including a young mother making a serious accusation against him. Trump appeared to advocate for a reassessment of the situation, as he emphasized that no one is above the law.

Two of Christie’s former allies were convicted and served prison sentences related to a scandal back in 2013, which involved retribution against a local Democratic mayor who refused to support Christie’s campaign. However, the Supreme Court overturned those convictions in 2020.

Christie was not implicated in the scandal—his aides were found guilty of closing lanes at the George Washington Bridge to create traffic trouble for Mayor Fort Lee, New Jersey. Prosecutors did not charge Christie, citing insufficient evidence to prove he was aware of the lane closures, and he has maintained his innocence throughout. The Supreme Court’s decision ultimately declared that while the actions were corrupt, they did not constitute a violation of federal law.
