Rory McIlroy seen at US Open shortly after a frustrating conclusion to the PGA season

Rory McIlroy made a quick switch from the golf course to the tennis court.

Just a few hours after wrapping up the PGA season at the Tour Championship in Georgia, the Irish golfer was seen enjoying the US Open on Sunday night.

The five-time major champion was soaking in the vibe at Arthur Ashe Stadium, alongside two friends, including his caddy, Harry Diamond, while Novak Djokovic competed against American Tien and won in straight sets.

The 24 Grand Slam winners kicked off their first night session of the tournament at 7 PM. It was quite a fast transition for McIlroy, who had just played in the final round with Harry Hall.

At 36, McIlroy participated in the Tour Championship, finishing second in the FedEx Cup standings. It wasn’t the season finale he envisioned, as he ended up in 23rd place among the 30 players, while Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood celebrated his first PGA Tour victory.

McIlroy’s performance in the weekend rounds wasn’t stellar, despite a promising start; he managed just one par.

“I hit it better. I wanted to improve this week, and I did,” McIlroy reflected after his final round. “The tee-offs have gotten so much better. I’m probably leading the strokes I got from the tee. But I struggled all week with the speed of the greens and reading the lines. That was really the story of the week.”

He added, “Last week was great at the BMW Championship at Caves Valley, but my tee play wasn’t up to par, and it showed. My game is coming along, not far off.”

Looking ahead, McIlroy is set to compete at home in the BMW PGA Championship, the Irish Open, and the DP World Tour in the coming weeks.

He’ll also be representing the European team at the Ryder Cup against the US at Beth Page, which takes place from September 26, marking a return to New York for the event.
