Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to Appear on “The View”

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is set to be one of the first guests when “The View” returns from its summer break in September. Her appearance is scheduled for September 9th, right after the show kicks off its new season. The co-hosts of the show took a hiatus throughout August following the conclusion of the previous season.

Sotomayor, one of the three liberal justices on the Supreme Court, shares many views with the show’s co-hosts, particularly regarding issues like abortion and affirmative action. Back in June 2022, she dissented in the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which reversed the federal protections for abortion and returned the power of regulation to the states. She also criticized the court’s 2023 decision to limit affirmative action in university admissions, arguing that it perpetuates racism.

Interestingly, “The View” has not invited any conservative voices or supporters of former President Donald Trump to join their discussions as of 2025, despite the ongoing political debates. A recent analysis noted that the co-hosts often lean towards liberal guests, such as Democrat Jasmine Rockett, who filled in for Whoopi Goldberg during a segment on June 19.

In a somewhat controversial interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris before the upcoming 2024 election, she expressed frustrations about working alongside President Joe Biden. Moreover, Goldberg, during a segment with Mehdi Hassan from MSNBC in April 2024, publicly called for Sotomayor to step down from her position on the court “for all of us.”
