Criticism of Democratic Support for Alleged Criminal
Homeland Security Secretary Christa Noem has condemned Democrats for their support of Kilmer Armando Abrego Garcia, whom she referred to as a “sick individual” during an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity.”
Despite efforts by the Trump administration to deport Abrego Garcia to Uganda, US District Judge Paula Sinis, appointed by Obama, has ordered that he remain in custody until further hearings can be held. According to NBC News, Hannity expressed confusion about why Democrats would back someone associated with criminal activities, specifically mentioning allegations linking Abrego Garcia to the MS-13 gang.
Noem responded, “I don’t get that either, Sean. Remember, Abrego Garcia has been known to recruit minors, show them naked pictures, and distribute porn. He’s a sick individual tied to terrorism and human trafficking, yet the Democrats stand by him.” She emphasized her belief that the Democratic support for such individuals would not resonate with the American public.
“These activists will be overwhelmingly rejected. They won’t earn the support of the people,” Noem claimed. “I talk to law enforcement every day, and they appreciate President Trump’s focus on enforcing the law and prioritizing American citizens over someone like Abrego Garcia.”
Since March, Democrats have rallied behind Abrego Garcia after he was deported to a large prison in El Salvador under the Trump administration. By June, he had been returned to the United States to face charges related to human smuggling.
After being released from a Tennessee jail, Abrego Garcia was taken into custody again by federal immigration authorities on Monday morning, as efforts continued to deport him to either Africa or Central America. However, Judge Sinis halted the deportation, noting that Uganda had not agreed to accept illegal immigrants, as reported by NBC News.
Before his detention, Abrego Garcia participated in a rally where he urged supporters to remember that he was free and to reunite with his family. He expressed gratitude to those who marched in his support, stating, “I will not remain silent; I will pray and fight in my name,” delivered in Spanish and then repeated in English.
In April, the Department of Justice released a document indicating that local law enforcement had evidence linking Abrego Garcia to MS-13 activity as far back as 2019.
