Giants to release Tommy DeVito

As the deadline for roster cuts approaches, the New York Giants are set to release quarterback Tommy DeVito. Reports indicate that the team did not plan to keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. They had already signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston during the offseason and drafted Jackson Dart from Ole Miss in the first round.

This decision marks an unexpected turn for DeVito, who gained a following in 2023 when he stepped in as a starter due to injuries affecting the team’s quarterback lineup. Hailing from New Jersey, he captured the hearts of fans during a six-game stint as a starter.

DeVito, affectionately nicknamed “Tommy Cutlets,” was known for his exciting style and expressive hand gestures. He had a 3-3 record as a starter in 2023 but struggled with a 0-2 start in 2024. Despite his cultural impact and meme-worthy moments, it seems the Giants are moving in a different direction.

Following the team’s strategic offseason moves, it would have been challenging for DeVito to secure a spot on the 2025 roster. Rumors circulated that he might become a trade option shortly after the preseason finale, but no deal was made.

Now, DeVito faces the prospect of finding a new team to continue his career.
