FX’s Alien: Earth: A New Take on a Classic Franchise
FX’s Alien: Earth offers a chilling yet captivating experience. Created by Noah Holy, the series delves into the fate of one of Weyland Yutani’s deep-space research vessels that, oddly enough, ends up crashing on Earth. This twist means not only the iconic Xenomorph is roaming around, but also introduces four entirely new alien species unique to the FX show.
In the initial episodes, audiences are introduced to creatures like bloody mites and eerie, eye-filled midges, alongside fresh elements of humanity’s evolution.
At its core, Alien: Earth confronts our fears of the unknown and, I think, our own mortality. The story centers on Cavalier (Samuel Brenkin), a young genius who stumbles upon a way to transfer human consciousness into an immortal synthetic form. But there’s a catch—it only works within a child’s brain, which is more resilient. So, Cavalier himself commands six “hybrids,” each named after characters from JM Barrie’s beloved tale, Peter Pan.
By the end of the last episode, we saw Wendy (Sidney Chandler) triumph over the “crocodile,” or the fully matured Xenomorph, while Cavalier accumulates five alien creatures into his own collection. Chlider (Bab Shaye), loyal to Weyland Yutani, had a plan to recover the samples for his company—but the group, known as “The Lost Boys,” has differing opinions on Cavalier’s recent alien-hunting escapades.
