An explosion in a residential area outside St. Louis, Missouri, has resulted in significant damage to over 20 homes, with one 18-year-old suffering life-threatening injuries. According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the blast occurred early Monday morning in the northern part of the county, injuring at least three individuals.
Paul Peebles, the chief of the Blackjack Fire Department, described the scene, stating, “There’s a lot of damage to these homes. People can’t get back there. It’s too dangerous at this point.” Firefighters were seen working through the smoldering debris of two homes.
The precise cause of the explosion remains unclear. The police confirmed that the 18-year-old victim is currently in critical condition. “It’s a blessing that no one was killed,” noted Senator Wesley Bell, reflecting on the situation. He expressed gratitude for the lack of fatalities but pointed out that many residents require assistance.
Local resident Dennis Ware shared her experience, saying the blast shattered her windows and injured her granddaughter. It seems remarkably chaotic; she added that at first, she thought a tree had fallen.
Interestingly, State Senator Angela Mosley, who lives about five miles away, felt and heard the explosion from her home. “I heard the explosion and felt it, things in the house had fallen. I thought it was a fallen tree, but unfortunately it was an explosion,” she recounted.
Emergency teams, including the bomb and arson units, arrived at the scene to investigate. Police have advised that extensive damage has occurred, urging people to stay clear of the area for safety reasons.
