Daniel Appointed Honorary Vice Mayor of Public Safety in New York City
In a notable turn of events, a 13-year-old named Daniel, who previously made headlines as an honorary Secret Service agent after being sworn in by President Donald Trump, has now taken on the role of deputy mayor of public safety in New York City. Quite a leap for someone his age, right?
Daniel’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Diagnosed with a serious illness in 2018, he has shown remarkable resilience that has resonated with many across the nation. However, in May, heartbreak struck when his father revealed that Daniel had three new brain tumors. This diagnosis posed yet another hurdle in his challenging journey, following years of defying a terminal prognosis.
On Tuesday, Mayor Eric Adams announced that Vice Mayor Kazu Daughtry would be “stepping aside” from his responsibilities in the realm of public safety. Daughtry indicated that he would be temporarily resigning, allowing Daniel to take over in his absence.
“I will resign for a bit today and DJ Daniel will take my place as honorary vice mayor for public safety,” Daughtry said.
Before Daniel took the oath, Adams emphasized that the 13-year-old possesses a notable record, having been recognized by law enforcement agencies nationwide, including an honorary appointment as the police chief of New York City earlier this year.
Daniel’s achievements were acknowledged during President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress where he was honored as an honorary guardian. Since then, Daniel has received recognition from various law enforcement agencies, encouraged by his father’s recent announcement of candidacy for Texas’ 18th Congressional District.
“When it comes to choosing people to serve in critical roles, we look for courage and commitment,” Adams commented. “Daniel has proven he possesses both.”
In addition to his official duties, Daniel is set to visit iconic landmarks in New York City, starting with the Empire State Building.
During the ceremony, Mayor Adams presented Daniel with a uniform symbolizing his new title as “Vice Mayor DJ,” nodding to his unique position and the responsibilities that come with it.
“Devarjaye ‘DJ’ Daniel is a remarkable young man. His courage and spirit truly impressed me, and I’m proud to name him Honorary Vice Mayor for public safety,” Adams stated. “Welcome to the team, DJ!”
