Game Tensions Between Mets and Phillies
The atmosphere got a bit heated during the game between the Mets and Phillies on Tuesday night, especially following the events from the previous day involving Mike.
At the bottom of the first inning, Juan Soto called for a timeout right before facing a 2-1 pitch. This turned into a bit of a scene when Phillies starter Jesus Luzardo, visibly frustrated by Soto’s delay, was ejected from the game. Even with umpire Willie Trainer acknowledging the timeout, Luzardo threw the ball towards home plate.
Soto, looking composed, stood out of the batter’s box, raising his right hand. Luzardo walked away from the mound, visibly upset, and animatedly gestured to Trainer as they had a quick chat between them. Regardless of the back-and-forth, Soto managed to walk to first base and had a moment of what seemed like a discussion with the Phillies dugout while he occupied third base in the latter part of the inning.
As the game progressed, Luzardo found himself in a tricky situation with bases loaded, yet he navigated through the pressure by striking out Brandon Nimmo. However, he once again had a tense exchange with Trainer during the fifth inning.
Earlier in the game, a lengthy delay occurred in the fifth inning when Phillies’ third baseman Alec Bohm raised a concern about a parabolic microphone positioned in center field after a double play. He mentioned, “There was a microphone in center field that must’ve been someone else’s and it was facing the plate, so the glare must have come out of the slot on the left-handed arm. The ball came out of that disc right away. They had to take it out of there.”
By the time the night unfolded, Philadelphia maintained a healthy six-game lead over the Mets in the standings.
