You used to make mixtapes for your crush. Now, it seems, you can share your favorite songs directly through Spotify DM.
The music streaming service has rolled out a new “message” feature that lets users share music, podcasts, and audiobooks without leaving the app.
This update is set to roll out to all users aged 16 and older in select markets this week.
You can utilize the feature by tapping the share icon during playback and selecting the friend you want to share your content with.
Users can start sharing with friends who share their Spotify subscriptions and also with those they’ve interacted with before on the platform.
Once you accept a message request, you can reply with emojis or text and share content back and forth. To access messages, go to your profile in the top left corner of the mobile app.
Additionally, users have the option to reject requests, block others, or opt out of messaging altogether.
According to Spotify, this new space within the app provides a straightforward way for users to share recommendations and content they’re excited about with friends and family.
However, not all users seem thrilled. One person expressed, “Honestly, I have no interest in using Spotify for anything but listening to music.” Another chimed in, saying, “If I say I don’t need this feature, I’m probably speaking for many others.” A third user simply asked, “Can we not have this? Not every app has to be a chat platform.”
Another user mentioned, “I’d rather send a link to my playlists on social media than DM friends through Spotify,” highlighting some frustration over this new feature.
Overall, many users seem unimpressed with this latest update.
