Cameron Young to Make History at Ryder Cup
Cameron Young is set to make waves at Beth Page Black as a member of Team USA at next month’s Ryder Cup, a notable event especially since he made history there even before his professional career took off.
At just 28 years old, Young, who attended Fordham Prep before playing golf at Wake Forest, has been selected as a rookie by Captain Keegan Bradley.
In 2017, he became the first amateur to win the Met PGA NY State Open on a challenging track, where he set a course record of 64 in the final round.
“It’s a unique honor to represent your country. The U.S. feels like home to me, but New York is truly where my heart is,” said Young, who grew up in Briarcliff Manor. “I’m really looking forward to returning to a place I love and standing tall there.
“Being part of this team feels like a personal achievement. That’s something you aim for at the start of the year. But this Ryder Cup has a deeper significance for me, especially being in New York, at Beth Page.”
Young has had a remarkable season with seven top-10 finishes, including his first PGA Tour win just this month, where he triumphed by six strokes at the Wyndham Championship and found himself fourth in the FedEx Cup rankings.
“Cam has been one of the most consistent players on tour in recent years,” Bradley mentioned. “His breakout victory at the Wyndham Championship was simply incredible, and he’s really putting in the effort.”
“Watching him maintain that big lead that Sunday was thrilling. And as someone from New York, we’re incredibly proud to have him on our team, representing his country at Beth Page Black.”
Golf runs deep in Young’s family. His father, David, was a professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Briarcliff Manor.
When reflecting on who is more excited about his opportunity, Cameron smiled and said, “Oh, man. It’s tough to say.”
“I think he spends endless hours working on his game just like I do. He’s been by my side every step of the way,” Young continued. “This opportunity has been on our minds for quite some time, especially since he has connections with both the PGA and the Ryder Cup. Playing for my country is something we’ve both dreamed of.”
“It’s hard to convey what this means to us both. We’re definitely thrilled.”
Alongside Young, Bradley also selected Justin Thomas, Colin Morakawa, Ben Griffin, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns. They will join former qualifiers like Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, and Harris English on the team.
The 2025 Ryder Cup, where Team USA will face off against the defending champions from Europe, will take place at Beth Page Black from September 26 to 28.
