Jason Kelsey Shares His Beard-Dyeing Decision

Jason Kelsey recently opened up about his choice to dye his beard during an episode of the podcast “New Heights.” The 37-year-old sparked quite a reaction on social media when fans noticed his colored facial hair. Initially mentioning that dyes were simply “good reasons,” Kelsey elaborated on this in a more recent episode.

“The dyed beard was inspired by a bit I was planning that involved a garage beer,” he explained. Kelsey initially contemplated shaving his beard completely before settling on dyeing it instead. He admitted, “I wanted to look younger. I thought, ‘I’m not going to do it. I’ll keep my beard because I’m not a fan of my face.’ So I dyed it, and actually, it turned out pretty well.”

However, he noted that the color ended up darker than he had anticipated. “I was hoping for something lighter,” he admitted, reflecting on the outcome. While he typically has a salt-and-pepper beard, Kelsey mentioned that he misses his gray hair but is growing fond of the darker look. “I can’t wait for my gray to come back. But honestly, I think I look pretty good with these darker whiskers,” he said, sounding pleased with the experiment.

Kelsey humorously acknowledged that he didn’t do it purely for vanity. “It’s a little bit about that, but there’s definitely a distinction,” he remarked. His brother, Travis Kelsey, teased him about it, suggesting it was normal to feel a bit anxious about aging, something Jason seems to embrace.

Interestingly, he also disclosed that he dyed his hair slightly, showing an openness to change. It’s amusing how a simple decision about facial hair can stir such conversations and reflections about aging, identity, and self-expression.
