FBI Investigates Deadly Church Shooting
On Wednesday, FBI Director Kash Patel announced that the agency is treating the recent shooting incident as both domestic terrorism and a hate crime aimed at Catholics.
The suspect was identified as Robin Westman, who fired at congregants, including schoolchildren and teachers, through stained glass windows at the Minneapolis Announcement Church. Tragically, Westman took the lives of two children, aged 8 and 10, and injured 17 others before taking his own life in the church parking lot.
Patel expressed deep concern, labeling the shooter as “this confused monster,” targeting our most vulnerable. He also confirmed that the suspect was born Robert Westman, and Secretary of Homeland Security Christie Noem referred to the shooter as a 22-year-old who “claimed to be transgender.”
In a post, Patel indicated, “The FBI is investigating the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism and looking into the hate crimes targeting Catholics.”
Related reports discussed that the shooter had a track record of anti-Trump sentiments and was identified as transgender in videos.
Further, Patel revealed, “There were two fatalities, aged 8 and 10,” adding that 14 children and three adults were injured in the assault.
Filming for the church service occurred at 8:15 AM, while families attended Mass.
Noem commented on the incident, stating that the shooter’s actions were particularly heinous, as he targeted children during their prayers at the start of the school year.
She emphasized, “This level of violence is unthinkable. Our thoughts and prayers extend to the children, parents, educators, and all Christians during this devastating time. We pray for their mourning and healing.”
