Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift Celebrate Engagement
On Wednesday, Selena Gomez took to her Instagram story to celebrate the engagement of her best friend, Taylor Swift, to Travis Kelce. She reposted their shared announcement, adding, “When Bestie got engaged,” paired with a heartface emoji.
To provide a fitting backdrop, she included Queen’s “You Are My Best Friend” as the soundtrack.
Additionally, Gomez shared a throwback tweet from Swift dating back to 2009, reminiscing about “real love” after every engagement.
“Real love still happens sometimes. It’s not just what we make up when we’re nine. I have to believe it. You will too,” Swift had tweeted all those years ago.
The friendship between Gomez, now 33, and Swift, who is 35, has blossomed since the late 2000s, initially sparked by their ties with the Jonas Brothers.
Swift and Kelce confirmed their engagement the previous Tuesday, featuring a photo carousel showcasing the proposal in a garden adorned with flowers. They humorously captioned it, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are married.”
In December 2024, Gomez announced her own engagement to Benny Blanco, showcasing a stunning Marquise diamond ring. She captioned her announcement, “It’s Beginning Forever.”
Swift chimed in on Gomez’s post, expressing her eagerness to take on a special role in the upcoming wedding, which is set for September in Montecito, California. “Yes, I’ll be a Flower Girl,” she commented.
The two have shared a long history, having both dated members of the Jonas Brothers in their younger years, and have supported each other through various ups and downs.
Earlier this month, Gomez recounted how their friendship began, mentioning a date with the Jonas Brothers. “I dated Nick and she dated Joe,” Gomez shared on the “Jake Shane and Therapse” podcast.
Despite past relationships, the bond they formed has withstood the test of time. “She and I want to say the best thing we’ve got from those relationships was that it was just one another because it was really sweet,” Gomez reflected on their lasting friendship.
“At that age, we became best friends. We joined on parting,” she added, looking back at their journey from then until now, 16 years later.
