Mika Parsons’ Trade: Breaking Down the Details
The significant move involving Mika Parsons took place on Thursday, highlighting two main aspects.
Starr’s decision to trade star pass rushers from the Cowboys to the Packers resolved several months of public disagreements regarding his contract.
However, an NFL insider suggests there’s more to the story.
“Parsons isn’t a fit for everyone,” remarked sports illustrator Albert Breer. He noted that players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb were well-liked in the locker room, even during their own contract negotiations. It seems Parsons doesn’t carry the same level of popularity.
This was evident during training camp. Although Parsons showed up and engaged in walkthroughs and training sessions, he skipped the preseason games and practices.
There was a curious moment when he was seen resting at the medical table while enjoying nachos during the Cowboys’ preseason finale against Atlanta.
“He performed well in meetings, but…” Breer added, leaving some thoughts unspoken.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that he wanted to negotiate a deal with Parsons publicly, sharing insights about what turned out to be a complex situation.
In true Jones style, he took jabs regarding Parsons’ health and his agent before ultimately trading the 26-year-old All-Pro to Green Bay in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks.
Parsons later secured a new contract with the Packers, a landmark four-year deal worth $188 million, including a staggering $136 million guaranteed.
While Jones acknowledged Parsons’ significant contribution over four years, he reflected on how this trade might echo the infamous Herschel Walker deal back in 1989, which ultimately fueled the Cowboys’ success in the early 1990s.
“Mika Parsons has truly excelled for us over four years. Herschel Walker might have been the biggest factor for the Cowboys,” he noted, leaving the future uncertain.
