Jeremy Miller Reflects on Support from Kirk Cameron and Alan Thicke

Jeremy Miller expressed gratitude towards his former “Growing Pains” co-stars, Kirk Cameron and the late Alan Thicke, for their pivotal role during tough times in his life. The 48-year-old actor, who grew up in the spotlight on the beloved 1980s sitcom, revealed that Thicke, who portrayed his TV dad, Dr. Jason Seaver, and Cameron, his on-screen brother Mike, provided crucial support when he was nearly homeless.

“He was one of the most amazing guys,” Miller said, reminiscing about Thicke, who sadly passed away in 2016 at age 69. In a recent interview, Miller recounted how, during the 2008 economic crisis, he faced significant challenges after his catering business failed. “I mean, I was really struggling on the brink of homelessness,” he shared.

Despite his hardship, Miller described how both Thicke and Cameron were there for him. Thicke helped secure job interviews at various restaurants in Santa Barbara and beyond, allowing Miller to utilize his culinary skills. “Alan set it all up,” he noted, adding that Cameron was also quick to aid him during this challenging time.

Miller recalled a particularly desperate moment when he reached out, saying, “Hey, I’m really struggling. Do I know someone who’s really struggling?” Surprisingly, that message led to a flurry of calls over the next couple of days, connecting him with potential opportunities.

The memories of Thicke were bittersweet for Miller. He characterized him as someone who was full of life and energy, expressing disbelief at his sudden passing. “We all thought he would be the next Dick Clark,” he reflected. Thicke often took on a fatherly role in Miller’s life, checking in regularly to ensure he was doing okay.

Throughout the years, Miller faced numerous personal battles, including issues with alcoholism. In previous discussions, he has highlighted his ongoing recovery journey, which began in 2011, though it hasn’t been a straight path. He described confronting various challenges that arose, including financial difficulties and personal conflicts.

“There were some financial troubles,” he admitted, recalling a significant argument with his fiancé that led him to the liquor store. “That’s probably the most embarrassing thing in my drinking career. I put other people’s lives in danger multiple times by driving,” he shared candidly, although he emphasized his commitment to recovery after a DUI incident.

As he reflects on these experiences, Miller’s story illustrates the importance of support from friends and family during life’s hardships, reminding us all how crucial it is to help one another through tough times.
