Zach Edey of the Grizzlies reprimanded by police for speeding over 100 mph in a video.

Zach Edey, the center for the Memphis Grizzlies, was pulled over by officers in Indiana for speeding—going over 100 mph—as captured in state police body cam footage from May.

The 23-year-old claimed he was heading to Purdue, his former school, when he was clocked at 101 mph in a 55 mph zone in Tippecanoe County.

“I know exactly why I pulled you,” the officer remarked. “You were going 101!”

Edey stated he was trying to pass another vehicle, but the officers were not having it, launching into an intense discussion about safe driving.

“No, you can’t go through 100!” one officer emphasized. “You’re on a 55 mph road, and you’re almost doubling the speed limit!”

“If it were 80, I might get it,” she said.

After handing over his license and registration, Edey received a ticket for speeding and a separate citation for reckless driving, which he considered to be “absolutely” fair.

“It’s a criminal offense, but I’m not taking you to jail,” the officer informed him, adding that he would hear from the court.

“Slow down,” she advised before allowing him to leave.

The 7-foot-4 Canadian signed a settlement with prosecutors on July 23 to resolve the issue. Reports indicate he pleaded guilty to speeding and agreed to pay $639.50, while the reckless driving charge was dropped.

Edey has not publicly commented on this incident.

It remains uncertain if he will face any repercussions from the Grizzlies or the NBA.

The former first-round pick averaged 9.2 points this season, contributing to 70 games, including the playoffs, with an average of 8.3 points.
