JD Vance rejects 'falsehoods' in report attacking envoy on Ukraine: 'An actual foreign influence operation'

JD Vance Criticizes Report on Ukraine Peace Envoy

Vice President JD Vance has pushed back against a report he claims seeks to damage the reputation of envoys promoting peace in the Ukraine-Russian conflict. He accused Politico journalists of engaging in what he termed “literal foreign influence operations” that undermine the peace initiatives.

Vance suggested that the article intentionally omitted remarks from key figures who have supported Steve Witkoff, another envoy involved in the peace process. He called this editorial decision a serious misconduct. “It’s not just poor journalism. It’s a clear attempt by foreign interests to destabilize our administration and discredit valuable team members,” Vance stated on social media.

He went on to warn that those who criticize Witkoff may have hidden agendas, implying that certain elements within the “deep state” are displeased with Witkoff’s successful diplomatic efforts.

The original article referenced claims from anonymous sources that characterized Witkoff’s initiation of peace talks as beyond his control. Vance noted that pertinent quotes from himself, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and former Trump advisor Jared Kushner were notably left out, suggesting that the piece served foreign interests aiming to disrupt diplomatic talks.

“There seems to be a coordinated effort to undermine the president’s push for peace. They see Witkoff as a vehicle for their narrative,” he added.

Furthermore, Vance expressed his condemnation of “deep state” actors who might be manipulating situations for their own advantage.

“There are two possibilities: either the writer is not very informed and was a pawn, or she knowingly participated in these operations,” he mentioned, pointing out the unprofessional nature of the reporting.

“We need to set the record straight: Witkoff is a significant asset to our team,” Vance asserted. He emphasized that Witkoff did not mislead anyone regarding communications with the Russians and has effectively narrowed down key issues in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In contrast, Schwartz, the article’s author, referenced a lack of constructive outcomes in prior meetings between President Trump and President Putin, suggesting that Witkoff’s efforts may not be progressing as expected.

Attempts to gain a response from Schwartz and Politico regarding Vance’s comments were unsuccessful.
