LSU Triumphs in Close Contest Against Clemson

On Saturday night, the highly anticipated matchup between No. 9 LSU and fourth-ranked Clemson turned out to be a tight defensive battle, ultimately leading to a 17-10 win for LSU in South Carolina.

The game started rather slowly—over the first seven drives there were four punts, a fumble, and only two field goals. It wasn’t until the second half that Clemson began to find their rhythm, completing a lengthy 13-play drive that resulted in the game’s first touchdown. LSU, however, also had their opportunity, but they struggled with a fumble in the red zone, a frustrating turn of events just as the half came to a close.

Clemson’s return from halftime was not ideal, missing a field goal attempt right off the bat. LSU capitalized on this misstep to score a touchdown, which seemed to shift momentum their way. But things took a turn again when Thomas couldn’t secure a catch, resulting in an incomplete pass. Shortly after, Damien Ramos misfired on a 46-yard field goal attempt.

Despite these setbacks, LSU managed to force three consecutive three-and-outs from Clemson, which paved the way for another touchdown drive capped off by Nussmeier. Clemson’s offense, meanwhile, had a shaky outing, with their quarterback Klubnik struggling; his first two passes right afterward fell incomplete, and a false start further complicated their situation.

The pressure mounted as the game neared the end, with Clemson getting an additional shot to score with just a minute and a half left. Yet, they couldn’t convert on a critical fourth down, leading to LSU sealing the game at 17-10.

Garrett Nussmeier displayed impressive poise, completing 28 out of 38 passes for 230 yards, while Klbuk’s performance mirrored that with similar stats. Nevertheless, Clemson’s run game proved almost nonexistent, with Adam Randall only managing 16 yards on five attempts but still scoring a touchdown.

Clemson is set to regroup as they prepare for a matchup against Troy next Saturday, while LSU will host Louisiana Tech in Baton Rouge, likely looking for a more comfortable win.
