Meghan McCain criticized after insulting Greta Thunberg's 'Lord Farquaad hair'

Meghan McCain has come under fire for her harsh critique of Greta Samberg’s appearance.

The conservative commentator took aim at Samberg’s hairstyle after seeing a video of the 22-year-old political activist delivering a speech in support of Palestinians. McCain likened Samberg’s haircut to that of “Shrek” villain Lord Farquaad.

At one point, McCain posted about it on X, but she later deleted the tweet.

Critics were quick to react, voicing their disapproval of McCain’s remarks. One user remarked, “I refuse to take anyone seriously who needs to lean on their last name for relevance,” referring to McCain’s late father, John McCain, a former Arizona senator.

Another chimed in, questioning the need to comment on Samberg’s appearance: “Whether you agree with her or not… Why criticize an average girl’s looks?”

“A person’s appearance doesn’t determine their integrity or passion for a cause. This is beneath you,” another critic noted.

Some commenters even pointed out McCain’s own history with hairstyles, particularly during her time on “The View.”

One said, “Meghan, you’re a beautiful woman, but don’t forget we all noticed your hair back then.” Another added, “Look at your styles from ‘The View.’ It’s just as questionable as your personality.” Another user joked, “It’s hard to take you seriously when you have such a varied hairstyle history.”

As of now, McCain’s team has not responded to requests for comment.

Back in February 2021, McCain addressed similar criticisms regarding her appearance on “The View.” She stated, “People seem to have a lot to say about me, but when it comes to my hair and makeup… I just played around and experimented. After having a baby, I think I deserve to enjoy my looks!”

At another point, responding to trolls who mocked her hair extensions during the pandemic, she remarked, “Can’t a girl try out her hair and extensions? It’s a pandemic; I’m just trying to live!”

McCain’s dig at Samberg came in the wake of the activist’s advocacy for Palestinian rights, prompting further commentary on the nature of criticism in the public sphere.

Previously, McCain has pushed back against comments about her appearance and weight on “The View.” “I want to discuss political issues, but all people seem to focus on is my looks, which is disconcerting,” she stated. “Men never have to deal with this kind of scrutiny. Why can’t we just hear what we’re saying?”
