Trump makes a strong statement regarding crime in DC

Former President Donald Trump recently made a statement asserting that Washington, D.C. is not, in fact, a “crime-free zone.” In a post shared on social media, he highlighted the ongoing issues in the city and provided some details about recent arrests.

He mentioned that in a recent update, there were 76 arrests, along with five firearms being confiscated. The arrests included Salvadorian citizens and suspected gang members from MS-13. Trump also pointed out that some individuals were apprehended under serious charges, such as assaulting a federal officer and making threats against the President and National Guard personnel.

This announcement came just two weeks after Trump declared a public safety emergency in D.C. and invoked a specific act to place the Metropolitan Police Department under federal supervision. He has mobilized around 800 National Guard troops to help manage safety, with a few hundred present at any given time.

In addition, Trump discussed how federal agents from various agencies have been reassigned to assist in patrolling the area. Early reports indicated that within the first 13 days of this increased enforcement, approximately 550 arrests had been made, and there had been a reported 40% drop in robbery and break-ins in the district.

By late August, the data illustrated a more robust law enforcement presence, with over 700 arrests and 91 illegal firearms seized. It seems that while the city strives for safety, the reality of crime continues to be a pressing concern.
